Southfields is placed in the London Borough of Wandsworth. It is about 6 miles form Charing Cross. An area called "The Grid" is the main residential area of Southfields It gets it name because all the streets are laid out in the form of a grid. This area didn't come to life until the 19th Century, before that is was mainly fields situated between Wimbledon and Putney.
As far as london goes Earlsfield is like any other suburb to be found in the area. The terraced houses that compose of most of the dwellings are of the Victorian area. There is also a high street called Garrat Lane which is made up of bars, restaurants, estate agents and shops.
Wandsworth is a district of South London and takes its name from the River Wandle, which flows into the River Thames. Wandsworth is mentioned in the Domesday Book, 1086 as Wandesorde and Wendelesorde. The area has a very village atmosphere and thrives with its many pubs, restaurants and independently owned shops and cafes.
