SUPPORT THAT FITS THE PLAN
Support for your child’s journey
Tell us how your child communicates, what helps them feel comfortable and any sensory, boarding, seating or handover needs. We agree support for the actual journey: special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) do not automatically mean a passenger assistant (PA) is needed, but a driver alone is not always enough. A PA can help with communication, supervision, boarding and handover while the driver concentrates on driving. You can provide an assistant or ask KB to source one; responsibilities and a passenger seat are agreed before acceptance.
Guidance to the car and loading ordinary bags or a folding wheelchair are free when arranged in advance. Tell the office what help is needed so it can coordinate a suitable arrangement; required disability assistance is not removed by lack of advance notice. Clinical care, medication, personal care, weight-bearing transfers and specialist handling require separately competent arrangements. KB currently has no wheelchair-accessible vehicles: a folded chair carried as luggage does not allow travel seated in it.
You can bring your own suitable child seat or ask KB to arrange one in advance, subject to availability and suitability. Tell the office your child’s age and relevant height, weight and seat requirements; confirm the seat price with the office.
